What is Medicare?

Medicare is the federal health insurance program for:

  • People who are age 65 or older

  • Certain younger people with disabilities

  • People with End-Stage Renal Disease

What Does Medicare Cover?

PART A

(Hospital)

Part A covers inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care.

PART B

(outpatient)

Part B covers outpatient care, certain doctor's services, medical supplies, and preventative services.

PART C

(medicare advantage)

Part C,also known as Medicare Advantage, is an alternative to Original Medicare. These plans include Part A, Part B and usually Part D.

PART D

(prescription)

Part D adds prescription drug coverage to Original Medicare, some Medicare Cost and PFFS Plans, and Medicare MSA plans.

What is a Medicare Supplement (MediGap) plan?

Medicare does not pay for all costs of approved services. A Medicare Supplement policy, also known as a MediGap, is an insurance policy offered by private companies to pick up the gaps (share of cost) in Medicare coverage.
